The Steeldive SD1970 is a faithful homage to the legendary Seiko 6105 — the cushion-cased diver famously worn by Martin Sheen's character in Apocalypse Now, and known among collectors as the "Captain Willard." It's one of the most consistently well-reviewed models in the affordable diver space, and for good reason: it delivers genuine tool-watch specification at a fraction of the price of the original it's inspired by.
Powered by a reliable Japanese NH35 automatic movement with a 41-hour power reserve, the SD1970 is built around a 316L stainless steel case with a sapphire crystal (AR-coated to reduce glare) and a ceramic unidirectional bezel. It's rated to 200m water resistance with a screw-down crown, and finished with Swiss C3/BGW9 luminous markers that reviewers consistently single out as excellent in low light.
The distinctive cushion-shaped case and crown positioned at 4 o'clock give it real vintage military character — a genuine conversation piece rather than another generic diver shape.
